Short bio for concerts

Felipe Lara was born in the state of São Paulo, Brazil in 1979. His music has been recently performed in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Holland, Luxemburg, Switzerland, and the United States by ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, Duo Diorama, Ensemble Recherche, International Contemporary Ensemble, JACK Quartet, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic Hilversum, and the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. Lara is currently a PhD candidate at New York University (GSAS) where he studied with Louis Karchin, Elizabeth Hoffman, and Mario Davidovsky. Additional studies in composition, computer-music, and orchestration with Tristan Murail at Columbia University, as well as lessons with Brian Ferneyhough, Helmut Lachenmann, Marco Stroppa, Michael Jarrell, Wolfgang Rihm, and Yan Maresz. His second string quartet <Tran(slate)> was the winner of the 2008 Staubach Preis in Darmstadt, Germany after the premier performance by the Arditti Quartet with the live-electronics of the Experimentalstudio SWR Freiburg. Two CDs including performances of Lara's music by the Arditti Quartet, Duo Diorama, and Percorso Ensemble, were released in Brazil in the Fall of 2008. In October 2010 Peter Eötvös will premier of a new orchestral work, commissioned by Donaueschingen Musiktage for their festival, to be performed by the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic Hilversum. In June 2010 Ensemble Recherche will premier a commissioned work to celebrate the ensemble's 25th anniversary. In April 2011 the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) will premier <"Ó"> for narrators, choirs, chamber orchestra, and electronics, under the batton of Ragnar Bohlin. Lara teaches in the music department (GSAS) at New York University and lives in the New York City area.

Recentemente sua música foi apresentada na Alemanha, Argentina, Brasil, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Luxemburgo e Suíssa por conjuntos tais como o Arditti Quartet, Berkshire Symphony, Duo Diorama, International Contemporary Ensemble, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin e New York Miniaturist Ensemble. Atualmente Lara é Doutorando na New York University onde estudou com Louis Karchin, Elizabeth Hoffman, e Mario Davidovsky.Também estudou composição, orquestração, e informática musical com Tristan Murail na Columbia University, e teve aulas com Brian Ferneyhough, Helmut Lachenmann, Marco Stroppa, Michael Jarrell, Wolfgang Rihm, e Yan Maresz. Seu segundo quarteto de cordas <Tran(slate)> foi o vencedor do Staubach Preis em Darmstadt, Alemanha, após a estréia realizada pelo Arditti Quartet, com a eletrônica em tempo real pelo Experimentalstudio SWR freiburg. Serão lançados no Brasil, até o final de 2008, dois CDs com obras recentes de Lara. Em 2010 o maestro Peter Eötvös realizará a primeira audição de uma nova obra para orquestra encomendada pelo Donaueschingen Musiktage, na Alemanha. Em Abril de 2011 a OSESP realizará a estréia de <Ó> para narradores, coros, orquestra de câmara, e elerônica sob a batuta do maestro Ragnar Bohlin. Esta nova obra encomendada será uma leitura sonora de um trecho do ensaio <Ó> de Nuno Ramos. Lara ensina no departamento de música (GSAS) da Universidade de Nova York.
